81 House Dems Join GOP in Voting to Deny Health Care to Trans Kids

Yesterday, 81 Democrats joined Republicans in voting for a National Defense Authorization Act that bans medically necessary health care for military families with trans kids.

Adam Smith, the ranking Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee, opposed the bill because of that provision.

This was, to be clear, just one of many reasons to have voted against the FY 2025 NDAA. As Senator Bernie Sanders outlined in an op-ed in The Guardian:

“The United States needs a strong military, but we do not need a defense system that is designed to make huge profits for a handful of giant defense contractors. We do not need to spend almost a trillion dollars on the military, while half a million Americans are homeless and children go hungry.”

Earlier this year, the Pentagon failed its seventh audit. And yet that has never stopped Congress from giving it more money.

It is especially disappointing to see House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries on that list.

On Tuesday, 6 House Democrats joined every Republican in voting to repeal energy efficiency standards for refrigerators and washing machines: Yadira Caraveo (CO-08) Henry Cuellar (TX-28) Don Davis (NC-01) Vicente Gonzalez (TX-34) Mary Peltola (AK-AL) Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (WA-03).

Last Friday, the House voted 327 to 62 for a bill to allow a neoconservative group to write recommended history curricula.

28 Republicans and 34 Democrats voted against it. Here are the 34 Democrats:
